Sania Mirza to marry Shoaib Malik

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza is all set to enter into a wedlock with former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik in April. Her family sources have confirmed the wedding plans. Pakistan's Geo television had reported on Monday that the two sporting superstars had got engaged and their marriage would take place in April. However, sources from Sania's family said there will be no engagement and the wedding will take place in next month.

They have also said the couple will live in Dubai after the wedding.Incidentally, Shoaib was earlier accused of marrying another Hyderabad girl, Ayesha Siddiqui, in 2002 over phone even though the cricketer said he was merely engaged to her.Ayesha's father had also threatened to sue Malik for jilting the girl and not giving her divorce. According to Geo TV, Shoaib's mother met Sania's parents in India and accepted her as future daughter-in-law.

The 'Walima' or reception is expected to be held in Lahore on April 16 or 17, according to the channel, which quoted sources as saying that Sania and Shoaib fell in love some six-and-half months ago and it could be the reason for the breaking up of Sania's engagement with childhood friend Sohrab Mirza."I desire to get married soon. You will soon get some good news but it depends on my family. I fully expect to get married this year," Shoaib had said in a recent interaction with the media here.Asked if it would be an arranged marriage, he said, "No can say what will happen, but it will take place with the concurrence of my family."

Mundhinam Parthene Movie Review

It's the season of love in Tamil these days, as one release after another proves. The problem is, it is not an easy job to escape the clutches of formula and turning out an intriguing love-story when dozens of movies revolves round romance.
However, it would seem that Seventh Channel Productions' Tamil movie, Mundhinam Parthene (taken from the hit number in Vaaranam Ayiram), directed by Magizh Thirumeni, has managed to make an impact.

Even the opening credits, set to Thaman S's delightful Broadway-esque lilting tunes offer a novelty. Essentially, this movie is a slice of an IT employee's life in Chennai; his dreams, aspirations, girls, work, interview and foreign visits. So you have IT professional Sanjay (Sanjay) pursuing his life and quite desperate to have a girlfriend, much to the light-hearted banter of his friends, Dinesh and Co.

In leisurely succession, he meets Pooja (Pooja), a fashionable, tittering coquette who jilts him unexpectedly; Aarthi (Ekta) a contradiction in every way to the traditional girl: she's an MBA who's now a dancer, lives alone in Chennai, and rumours are afloat that do her no good. Sanjay's own friends have numerous stories about her, but he feels the pull of her attraction at once.

In the meantime, there's another girl at his own concern, Anu (Lizna), who, with her striking looks, attracts him as well. Sanjay's life, though, is anything but easy. His own vision of his wife is a conglomerate of every Indian guy's dreams; she has to be modern, yet traditional; home-loving, yet out-going, madly in love with him -- the list goes on.

The girl of his dreams in reality is far removed from the vision he's painted for himself -- but his heart and brain send him different signals. His close coterie of friends, with their conflicting advice, doesn't help either -- partly because they're a confused lot, themselves.

It's a simple story on paper, but where Magizh Thirumeni has excelled is in his treatment. There are little nuggets of IT professionals going through life in Chennai, the guy who permanently mourns the fact he's still a virgin at 29, the girl who has a vicious tale to tell of everyone, the girl who's married a stinking rich NRI and comes back to rub that fact in everyone's faces... the list is sweet, intriguing and so very real that you can't help but smile with pleasure at the accurate portrayals.

While the lead cast has done reasonably well, it's the secondary cast that our-performs them by a mile. The roly-poly guy who's always the butt of jokes and selects the name of Mr Piston for chat sessions, the dance classes that remind you of Shall We Dance, the friends who take each days as it comes, presentations, surveys et al, and the matter-of-fact girls are a joy to watch. They add character to what might otherwise be a flat portrayal.

The climax might prove disappointing to some, but it's the only way things happen in real life and as such, is very fitting.

The film itself moves at a pretty leisurely pace, taking its own sweet time to resolve issues, and lot of time is spent in voice-over narration, which is a minor irritant. The movie is undeniably up-market and is likely to appeal to multiplex audiences more but a common thread of life, love and marriage might bridge the gaps.

Antony's editing is carefully done, Vincent's camerawork is superb. The colours are bright, smooth and wash over you like a rainbow. Thaman's music, though appealing on its own, seems to halt the proceedings, especially in the second half. The best part, though, is that this is a pretty short movie in keeping with the times.

It might not be a slam-bang action movie with twists at every turn but Mundhinam Parthene is fairly accurate, humorous portrayal of life in a certain section of the society, deftly told. Definitely worth a watch.

Angadi Theru Movie Review

Movie Review:

After his hard-hitting ‘Veyyil’, Vasanthabalan has
dared to venture where no other director has until date. The raw and sometimes brutal side of the sweat shops of commerce, shopping malls, is showcased.
Richard Nathan’s camera lays bare the innards of Senthil Murugan Stores on
Ranganathan Street, adding power to Vasanthabalan’s bold script .

The one-stop shop wonders that attract thousands of shoppers and spin the wheels of commerce are actually spun by the sweaty and sleep-deprived hungry youth of Tamil Nadu. While they have jobs that allow them to send home desperately-needed money, their working conditions are pathetic. But the young sweat it out, despite lacking fundamental rights, including the freedom to fall in love.

The story unfolds through the lives of Jothilingam (newcomer Mahesh), and his friend Marimuthu (Pandi) who are brought to Chennai from their humble homes in Ittamozhi of Tirunelveli district. Sent first to the underbelly, the godown, the two are thrilled when they go to the air conditioned third floor. And that is when the reality-check kicks in, fully. In the form of the abusive floor supervisor (director Venkatesh), who does not hesitate to slap a boy who gives him the lip or a girl who slackens on the job. When he finds a love letter written by a girl, he conducts an open inquiry which drives the girl to jump off the third floor in full view of all.

Jothilingam, who by now is in love with Kani (Anjali) worries over the fate of his romance, but all
that is forgotten when actor Sneha arrives for an ad film shoot in the shop. While everyone is busy, the two lovers steal a few moments alone but end up getting locked when the shop closes at night. As they face the consequences, and choose to live a life on the streets of Chennai, tragedy strikes in the form of an accident. Will true love prevail?

While the first half races past, the second gets entangled in unnecessary sub-plots, like the one about Kani’s young sister employed as a housemaid, and meanders a bit. However, all the actors have pulled off convincing performances. Vijay Anthony and GV Prakash have teamed up for the music, and ‘Aval appadi onrum azhagillai’ is the pick of the lot.

This not a pretty picture, but a searing comment. The next time you visit a shopping mall, vignettes from the film will pop up, like spam mail, in your memory. A hard, but must-see for
those who care about cinema and society.
